Kindle or Kindle Fire for Reading?

So….my new Kindle Fire arrived yesterday!  As a loyal Amazon Kindle fan, one of the first things that I did with my Kindle Fire was to turn to the page in the book that I am currently reading and see what the difference was…

Kindle Touch, Wi-Fi, 6Probably the biggest and most evident difference between the Kindle Fire and the Kindle Touch is that the Kindle Fire is backlit…if you’ve been reading on the regular Kindle, you know that there is no backlighting whatsoever with the e-Ink Kindle pages.  In fact, that is one of the things that most distinguishes the Kindle as an eReader device.  The lack of backlighting is what makes the Kindle Touch readable in bright sunlight, but for Kindle Fire?  I must admit there is some glare on the screen at certain angles, and the backlighting does make reading for long periods of time on the Kindle Fire somewhat uncomfortable for the eyes after a while.  With the Kindle Touch, I can literally read for hours…with Kindle Fire, not so much.

Another interesting difference is that the Kindle Fire weighs quite a bit more than the Kindle Touch…you might not think that this makes much difference at first, but after about 10-15 minutes, I was looking for a place to prop my Kindle Touch.  I ended up propping it on a pillow, since I was reading in bed.  But, for everyday reading….like sitting in your favorite chair on a rainy Saturday afternoon…or reading under the umbrella on that next trip to the beach…Kindle Touch beats Kindle Fire hands down!

Now, obviously, there are a lot of differences between the two, however, in this post, we are talking about actual reading.  Not surfing the net.  Not updating my Facebook status.  Actual reading.  Where you simply lose yourself in a book for an hour or an afternoon.  And, as much as I love my Kindle Fire, for actual reading of a normal book, I will still use my Kindle Touch.

What does that mean for the market?  To me, that means that there is still a need for both devices, and that there are lots of people like me.  People who will own and use both the Kindle Touch and the Kindle Fire.  Two devices.  Two separate reasons for owning both.

To me, that’s definitely a WIN-WIN situation!

Kindle Fire is Here!

In September, when Amazon.com introduced their new line of Kindles, I was one of the first people to order the new Kindle Fire tablet…at $199.00, it’s literally the best bang for the buck in the tablet market.

Today, when my Kindle Fire arrived, I knew I had made the right choice in tablet pc’s.  Right out of the box, the Kindle Fire was preloaded with my Amazon account information, and it was charged and ready to go.  I simply turned it on and started testing the features.

The screen is crisp and clear and the sound is actually very good for a tablet device.  It’s easy to use, and almost instinctive to operate.  If you want to turn a page, just swipe the corner.  If you want to browse the web, just tap and browse.  Watch a movie?  Again, browse, tap, and watch!

Over the next few days, I will be going into more detail about the Kindle Fire, but I wanted to get up a quick post tonight to let you know that Amazon overdelivers on Kindle Fire!

Google and Kindle Go Head to Head

Yesterday, Google announced the release of it’s own branded eReader, the iRivier Story, which will be sold this coming Saturday at Target stores.

Not to be outdone, Amazon has just announced aAmazon Kindle 3G with Special Offers price drop on the 3G version of it’s Amazon Kindle, now with special offers!

Just like the WiFi version, available for $114.00, the 3G version of the Kindle with the special offers will feature non-intrusive, tasteful advertisements for major brands.  Even better, there’s a $50.00 price drop, bringing the price down to $139.00!

This definitely heats up the competition between Amazon’s Kindle 3G and Google’s iRivier Story eReader, offering a WiFi only version.

What do you think…which is the best ereader, and will you be influenced by eReader Sales like this?   Or, will this make you decide to purchase the Kindle, a trusted device, with a proven record, or will you go for the newly released Google eReader?

Electronic Books And Ereaders, The Future Of Book Reading

eReaders are handy digital devices that can store several hundreds of ebooks which you can read later at your convenience. In fact, they have several thoughtful features that can make reading from these ereaders an experience in itself. You won’t have to flip through the pages nor will you be required to lug around bulky books. All that you have to do now is click the right buttons to scroll through the book or to search for another book.

You can connect these ereaders to your PC for transferring ebooks to your ereader, or you can download them directly to your ereader. Ebooks are cheap too, which means you can do justice to the huge memory that the ereaders comes with. There are many who complain that the advent of modern electronic devices like the PC, the gaming devices and so on is taking a toll on book reading. This trend can be reversed and going by the popularity of Electronic Readers, reading books is back as a favorite pastime, and in a big way at that.

Most of the leading ereader like the Nook sport compact dimensions and are lightweight. And a single ereader can take the place of several hundred books. The benefit of this can be felt all the more when you are traveling and you can have unlimited access to all the books that you would like to have at all times.

What’s more, ereaders also come equipped with a host of other features that can make reading books a fun experience. Like you can change the size of fonts, which is a boon to those who are visually impaired or senior citizens. This is one thing that you can never do with a real book. Then ereaders can play music even while you are reading and can work just as well in bright sunlight as anywhere else. Ereaders also emit light similar to a computer screen so that you can read even in darkness. These ereaders also sport the ground-breaking eInk technology that makes their display exactly similar to a real page but won’t strain your eyes in any way.

As a matter of fact, ereaders have created a revolution of sorts among book lovers across all age groups. And if you feel tempted to join in the revolution, you can buy Kindle DX and your life won’t be the same any more, that’s for sure.

Ereaders are good for the environment as well as they can bring down the paper consumption in a big way. They have a long battery life and on a single full charge, these ereaders can run in excess of 2 weeks. Ereaders are compact enough to be accommodated in your pocket and are available in a wide price range so that they are easy on your pockets as well. Take for instance the Kindle 3 that will set you back a couple of hundred of dollars. But the convenience that comes with it is simply unbelievable.

Extra! Extra! Read it on your Kindle!

(CNN) — Newspaper publishers no doubt long for the days of black-and-white packages on most doorsteps and corporate earnings “in the black,” as they say.

Starting December 1, Amazon will give newspapers a 70 percent cut of revenue from digital versions of their editions sold in the site’s Kindle Store. That’s in line with what Apple and Google give developers selling apps in their digital markets….”
